Wii GOTY

Hey this is the Gnoise Wii Team, bringing you the top five Wii games of 2007. It's been a great year for Wii gamers, and things are only going to get better in 2008. Here are our top five picks for the Wii:

5. Madden 08

Once again, EA has surpassed our expectations with Madden 08 on the Wii. They took everything that worked in 07 and made it better, and scrapped what didn't feel quite right. They also added some unecesary bonuses like Familly Play, and a quizing game. But in the end, we actually had some fun playing them and I'm sure your grandparents will too. The big inprovment from last year's Madden is the online; it's not perfect, but it works just fine. Madden 08 on the Wii is the best version of the game, and it's great to see publishers really try to make their big franshises specifiacally for Wii; and it sure paid off.

4. Warioware: Smooth Moves

This quirky mini game collection came out at the very begining of 2007, and we almost forgot to put this one in. But this is definatly the funnest and most intuitive party game on the Wii thus far. Pushing controls to actually make you get up and start dancing is only possible with Warioware. The motion controls were really great and opened our eyes to what the Wii can pull off. Although it was short, it was sweet, and the party modes kept us coming back for more.

3. Battalion Wars II

BWii is a great strategy action cartoon war simulator... alrite I'll admit it stands alone as it's own category. But it's a great, fun simple game that'll have you coming back for more. This time around Nintendo has added online, and it works great. Although there isn't any voice chat as of now, we're just glad that that they jumped on the online bandwaggon with one of their bigger franshises finally. Battalion Wars II get's are number three spot.

2. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

The number two spot goes to Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. This game isn't for everyone, and you definatly shouldn't aproach it as a fast pace mindless shooter. But everything from the art design and story, to the revolutionary first person motion controls will swipe anyone right off their.. couch. The controls are quick and slick and set the bar for other first person shooters on the Wii. More than half of the game is exploring and solving puzzles, so if you're into that kind of stuff you're going to love this game, because not only is everything presented beautifly, but everything you do has a purpose and actually make you think quite hard. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is a great conclusion to the Prime series and a great game to pick up for your Wii.

1. Super Mario Galaxy

It shouldn't come as a suprise that our number one Wii game of the year is Super Mario Galaxy. It's just one of those games that shows us what Nintendo is all about all over again, and at the same time shows us what developpers can pull off by working with the Wii properly. A mix of originality and pure fun that keeps a constant pace throughout gives you the same feeling you get when you we're younger growing up on Super Mario 64. The game is genius and has unexpected twists around every corner. Flawless controls, fixed cameras that work, and sheer variety are all to be expected from Galaxy. The gravity system works fantasticly and you will will spend hours just pushing the hardware just to see what kind of stunts you can make Mario pull off. Super Mario Galaxy will go down in histoty as one of the most original and best games of all time; a true sequel to Super Mario 64.
